IUOE Local 877 supports all levels of education for our members and their families. That’s why we’re proud to offer the following scholarship opportunities to further the careers of the hard-working Local 877 community.

Local 877 Scholarship
The Local 877 annual scholarship application is open now! Children or grandchildren of current Local 877 members are all eligible to apply for this scholarship for (7) $1,000 winners and (1) $2,000 winners.
Applications are due on Friday, July 28, 2023, so don’t delay!
To be eligible for an award, the student must:
  • Be the child or grandchild of a current Local 877 member in good standing
  • Be enrolled in or accepted into an accredited post-high school education institution
  • Complete the scholarship application
  • Submit an official copy of his or her most recent school transcript (copies or printouts from the school’s website will not be accepted)
  • Submit a 500-word essay on this topic: “Describe what the modern labor movement means to you.”

The Massachusetts Coalition of Taft-Hartley Trust Funds is offering two scholarship opportunities to Local 877 members and their families in 2023: the Lou Sarno Memorial Scholarship and the Colleen Sullivan Memorial Nursing Vocation Scholarship. Applicants may only apply for one of these scholarships.

Lou Sarno Memorial Scholarship
The Lou Sarno Memorial Scholarship is an award for $1,000 for 4 years (total $4,000.) All applications must be emailed (preferred) or postmarked by Friday, March 10, 2023.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a member, child, grandchild or spouse of a local union member, or employees of its affiliated Taft-Hartley Trust Fund, whose local union and its affiliated Taft-Hartley Trust Funds are dues paying members of the Massachusetts Coalition of Taft-Hartley Trust Funds (MCTHTF).
  • Be enrolled in or accepted as an undergraduate student by an accredited college or
    university.

Colleen Sullivan Memorial Nursing Vocation Scholarship
The Colleen Sullivan Memorial Nursing Vocation Scholarship is an award for $1,000 for 4 years (total $4,000.) All applications must be emailed (preferred) or postmarked by Friday, March 10, 2023.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a member, child, grandchild or spouse of a local union member, or employees of its affiliated Taft-Hartley Trust Fund, whose local union and its affiliated Taft-Hartley Trust Funds are dues paying members of the Massachusetts Coalition of Taft-Hartley Trust Funds (MCTHTF).
  • Be enrolled in or accepted as an undergraduate student by an accredited nursing program.
